Gallipoli called the ancient Kale' Polis (beautiful town) has a long history.
It was a messapian, hellenic, Roman and Byzantin town.

In various period Gallipoli had great importance because of its Port that recieved many Merchants from all over the Mediterranean basin.

From this Port was departing the oil for the lamps used to illuminate London.
The port worked and still works also as fishing Port

Today Gallipoli is an important international tourist centre in Salento region.
The city can easily be reached trough a modern road and by train.
